How to Export FIT Files from Strava, Garmin, COROS, & Suunto

A complete step-by-step guide to exporting your original .FIT activity files from major sports platforms to use with RunCut.

To create beautiful, animated workout videos in RunCut, you need your GPS and performance data. The gold standard for this data is the .FIT (Flexible and Interoperable Data Transfer) file format. It contains high-density, second-by-second records of your route coordinates, heart rate, power, cadence, speed, and elevation.

Here is a step-by-step walkthrough on how to export original .FIT files from the most popular running and cycling platforms.

1. How to Export from Strava

You can download the original file format (which is typically .FIT if it was uploaded from a sports watch) directly from the Strava website.

1

Open your web browser and log into Strava.com (Note: This must be done on a desktop web browser, not the mobile app).

2

Go to your Activity Feed and click on the specific running or cycling activity you want to export.

3

On the left side of the activity page, click the Actions button (represented by three dots ...).

4

Select Export Original from the dropdown menu.

5

Save the file. If the activity was originally recorded on a GPS watch, it will download as a .fit or .fit.gz file (which you can unzip).
